Thursday 9th of May - A day in Brighton !

par Anaïs, Chanita & Abdullah

Thursday was a special day : the only one we didn’t spend in London, but in Brighton !

Before talking about our trip, let’s introduce the town of Brighton :

It’s a medium-sized city, located on the south coast of England, approximately 75km away from London.

Its location on the seaside makes it be very attractive for tourists, who come every year by millions to admire the incredible view offered by the Atlantic, and to enjoy Brighton’s unique atmosphere.

The town is especially known for its artistic and cultural scene as well as for its large and very well accepted LGBT+ population, which allows Brighton to be considered as being one of the most open-minded cities in the world.

As we had to take the train to go to Brighton, we had to have our breakfast earlier than most of the other days (at 7.30am), which means the alarm clock had been set to ring really early considering we had party all the night young people like us need a lot of sleep in order to be in shape...

Because of that we weren't so fresh, as it's visible on the following pictures.

Tired... but still happy !

But finally, after one looooong hour in the train, we arrived at Brighton !

At the station there wasn't much to see, it was a quite usual place.

Except for that...

The caution signs were very... explicit.

Once arrived our guide for the day, Mister Mark Rayfield, we went on direction of the seaside !

This little walk gave us a first glimpse of the town, which could be described as very coloful and full of life.

A lovely city...

After this little walk we arrived on the seaside ! Since our arrival there was always a strong wind blowing on us, but it's only at that moment we really felt how poweful the ocean was.

We first didn't understand why we were going in direction of the harbour, because from the place we arrived we couldn't what was resting on those piles...

We had to pay attention to our hats...

Even with binoculars we couldn't really understand what was going on there...

Before going to the end of the harbour, we first stopped to admire the strength of the waves...

And finally, we reached the end of the harbour and discovered that it was in fact an amusement park !

But in fact, the attractions weren't the only thing that caught our attention there... The view on the city was incredible as well !

However, the point from which the view was the most incredible was the top of the biggest attraction !

Unfortunately, it could have been quite difficult to bring a picture from there... here is a short video that could help you to figure why :

To summarize, visiting such a place was surprising but we really enjoyed it !

Joy is present !

After that, everybody was free to have lunch where he wanted to.

For some of us, it was time to try the famous fish and chips, except for Axel and his burger...

After everyone had eaten, we all met at the harbour entrance and then went for a walk on the beach !

Still don't know what was that made for, but it looks quite nice !

We spoke about the strength of the waves just before, right ? When we were really close to them it was even more impressive !

(the background noise isn't made by the birds, but by Chiara and Elsa...)

And as you can see on the following pictures, all was perfectly normal and common on that beach ! (no)

When the walk was finished, Mister Rayfield brought us to the school where he teaches English : Olivet !

It's a lovely place, but we won't explain to much about it, Mister Rayfield is certainly the most appropriate to do so :

But what is sure : we were very well welcomed there !

After that visit Mark left us and we went to the Royal Pavillon !

Unfortunately, it was forbidden to take any picture inside the pavilion. But in compensation, let us tell you a part of what we learned there :

The building's construction, which finished in 1823, had been decided by George IV who was a King who wanted to make an atypical building for his second residence in Brighton. That's why the appearance of this Pavillon is so... special compared to what used to be built at the time. The outside is in fact based on a Indian style, and the inside on an asian style, this combination makes the pavilion being a really original construction.

To discover the rest of the story, we recommand you to just visit the pavilion by yourself... it's not boring !

When the visit was finished, we had free time until the evening meal. The perfect opportunity to discover more of the town !

Walking in the streets was quite pleasant !

In the evening we had dinner at Bankers, which is said to be the best place to have fish and chips in England. Some of us enjoyed the traditional meal, but some others had already had fish and chips for lunch so they had a salad. We had to wait for Chanita to finish her meal so we almost missed the train because of her.

After the restaurant we ran back to the train station (thank you Chanita) and took the train.

Some of us were still awake... (and beating their subway surfer's high score)...

While some of us were... should we really describe what they were doing ?

We got down at Victoria's Station and then most of the class went back to the youth hotel but a group stayed a bit in town.
